Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi! Custom English Subs
It's no secret I'm a huge fan of director Kōji Shiraishi-- of his work so far, his crowning achievement has definitely been the 10-film series Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi!, featuring the paranormal investigations of Director Jin Kudo, Assistant Director Miho Ichikawa, and cameraman Masatsugu Tashiro. These have never had an official release in the west, so fans have had to wait for fan-translated English subtitles, which fortunately were done by fan translator SOTAR. However, the subs were first translated from Japanese to Russian and then to English, and the process left a fair amount of errors; odd/incorrect phrasings, errors with name variations, timecodes showing up in the subs, etc.
I wanted to give back to the community of Kowasugi fans, and have more intelligible subs for myself, so I spent some time fixing them up. My Japanese is extremely limited, so these are corrections purely based on the existing translations. I fixed name variations (using the character names listed on Letterboxd/TMDB), removed duplicate lines and places where timecodes were appearing, fixed formatting, and changed a bunch of stuff that didn't come through correctly; no longer does Kudo tell Tashiro to "take this off" when he wants something filmed, or segments are now correctly labeled as "unedited" instead of "unglued" or "unstitched", for example. Things should flow a little more sensibly for native English speakers.
Once again, massive thanks to SOTAR for the original translations, and a big thanks to all the Shiraishi fans that made it possible to track these movies down. If you notice any mistakes or have any improvements, let me know!
When you download the subs, you'll need to rename the file to match the video file exactly, just leaving the ".en.srt" or ".en.ass" extension. So for example, if your file 01 is "Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi! File 01 - Operation Capture the Slit-Mouthed Woman.mkv", you'll need to rename "01 - Capture the Slit-Mouthed Woman.en.ass" to "Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi! File 01 - Operation Capture the Slit-Mouthed Woman.en.ass". Then they should get picked up by VLC player or Plex or whatever, as long as they're in the same folder as the video file.
